Daily Devo – Blind Devotion

2 Samuel 1:11-12 Then David and all the men with him took hold of their clothes and tore them. They mourned and wept and fasted till evening for Saul and his son Jonathan, and for the army of the Lord and for the nation of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
2 Samuel 2:1a In the course of time, David inquired of the Lord. “Shall I go up to one of the towns of Judah?” he asked.
“In the course of time…” Mourning takes time, but I must always come back to the Lord after grieving to ask for His direction, so that I can move on to fulfill His purpose.

1 Samuel 31:4-5 Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me. ”But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it. When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died with him.
Putting my hope in another person instead of God can lead me to death. Father, may my hope always be in You!

1 Samuel 30:6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God.
When I am greatly distressed, do I find strength in the Lord or do I simply become overwhelmed? Father, give me great faith!

1 Corinthians 9:12 If others have this right of support from you, shouldn’t we have it all the more? But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ.

Am I willing to put up with “anything”, so that the gospel will not be hindered?

1 Samuel 28:17-18 The Lord has done what he predicted through me. The Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hands and given it to one of your neighbors—to David. Because you did not obey the Lord or carry out his fierce wrath against the Amalekites, the Lord has done this to you today.
When we do not obey the Lord, there are consequences. Sometimes, God will use others to fulfill His purpose in our place, causing us to lose an honored position previously granted by the Lord.

1 Samuel 27:10-11 When Achish asked, “Where did you go raiding today?” David would say, “Against the Negev of Judah” or “Against the Negev of Jerahmeel” or “Against the Negev of the Kenites.” He did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, for he thought, “They might inform on us and say, ‘This is what David did.’” And such was his practice as long as he lived in Philistine territory.
David hurt others on purpose to protect himself long before his encounter with Bathsheeba. Even the “man after God’s own heart” had his downfalls. Lord, thank You for loving me I spite of myself.
