Luke 14:27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
Discipleship involves sacrifice and suffering. 

Luke 13:34 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.”
Jesus longs to gather us together to Himself. The stopper? We are not willing. 

2 Samuel 13:15 Then Amnon hated her with intense hatred. In fact, he hated her more than he had loved her. Amnon said to her, “Get up and get out!” 
Our sinful desires deceive us, creating a worse situation after we commit the sin. Lord, keep me on the righteous path!

Luke 13:33 Jesus said, “In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day…”
The supreme definition of perseverance. Help me to endure with patience as I press on, O Lord. 

Luke 13:32 He replied, “Go tell that fox, Herod, that I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.”
Jesus will fulfill his plans in spite of opposition or enemy resistance. Amen!

Luke 13:31 At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.”
The devil will use people to discourage, intimidate, and dissuade us from doing God’s will. Give me courage and resolve, Lord. 

Luke 13:22 Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem.
Jesus ministered to others as He went about His normal day. Father, help me to do the same!

2 Samuel 11:17 When the men of the city came out and fought against Joab, some of the men in David’s army fell; moreover, Uriah the Hittite died. 
When I sin against someone, it will negatively affect others who are not directly involved with the sin. Father, please keep me from sinning.

2 Samuel 9:6-7 When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him honor. David said, “Mephibosheth!”“At your service,” he replied. “Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.” 
May I keep my commitments to my friends regarding their families and future generations, even when my friends have passed on.

Luke 13:3 But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
Repentance prevents us from spiritual destruction. May I always keep short accounts with You, Lord!
